According to a press release, the deal adds temperature-controlled facilities in 14 countries and more than 3,000 Bomi team members, expanding the UPS Healthcare network in Latin America and Europe.

“Bomi broadens our portfolio of services and accelerates our aim to become the top supplier of complex healthcare logistics,” says Kate Gutmann, EVP, and President of UPS International, Healthcare and Supply Chain Solutions. Our two teams’ cooperation will significantly increase our healthcare clients’ ability to develop and implement life-saving solutions.

As a consequence of the acquisition, UPS gained more than 350 temperature-controlled vehicles and four million square feet of extra facility space. This was done in an effort to provide clients with faster shipment times, greater production flexibility, and goods to assist them to win new business.

The purchase, according to UPS, is a part of its ongoing UPS Healthcare network and service growth to meet increasing demand. Along with the company’s campuses in the Netherlands and Hungary, new healthcare logistics facilities have been built in Germany and Australia.

UPS purchased Texas-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) company Delivery Solutions in May in an effort to give retailers “out-of-the-box” same-day delivery alternatives.

The Delivery Solutions platform helps companies ship from their stores and distribution centers while also enabling curbside and in-store pickup.

Additionally, UPS will use its distribution network to expand across the continent, according to a statement made in April by Jumia Technologies AG, an online marketplace with a concentration on Africa.

UPS’s chief of strategy for the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, and Africa, Renzo Bravo, predicts that by 2025, internet trade in Africa may reach over $180 billion. That will encourage commerce and growth both inside Africa and with the rest of the world.
